The maternal mortality rate is high in Nigeria, and most deaths are preventable. Many women in Amechi Uwani do not receive standard antenatal care and often give birth outside a hospital setting, mostly due to the prohibitive cost of antenatal care and transportation problems.
These practices lead to severe complications, including maternal death, fetal/neonatal death, orphaned children, and child/family's sufferings: intensifying poverty. We aim and are prepared to tackle barriers to standard antenatal and hospital delivery care in Amechi Uwani through education and provision of free, and readily accessible and available women health. OCHF also provides non-antenatal primary care Maternal/Women Health Care with the support of a visiting Gynaecologist/Obstetricians.
